what noback does with your data today, in numbers. we only list what already works: if something isn't here, we don't promise it.
where your data lives
- first, on your device. what the app saves stays in the browser on your phone or computer.
- then, on noback. it syncs with the server and reaches the other devices using the same copy.
- if the internet drops while the app is open, you can keep going. when the connection is back it uploads by itself. if two people changed different things offline, both changes stay.
- the servers are at vultr, in brazil, with cloudflare in front. more in privacy.
- not a closed box: download everything whenever you want (see how to take everything with you).
backups
- one a day, of the accounts and the data of every app. once a week it's a full one; the other days it keeps only what changed.
- the last 14 are kept, about two weeks.
- off the server: each backup is also uploaded to cloudflare r2, a different provider, which also keeps the last 14.
- for a few seconds a day noback pauses so the backup comes out whole. what you write in that moment stays on your device and uploads right after.
- if a backup fails, we get an alert on our phone.
- backups are for when the server breaks: with them we bring all of noback back to how it was. to take your app or your data back, use the versions and the history below.
how to go back
- app versions: every time you publish there's a new version, and noback keeps the last 100 of each app. from «my apps» you go back to any of them. it comes back as a new version, so you can undo that too.
- data points: when a copy opens on a new version of the app, a point with the data as it was is saved first. in noback's tab, «data history» → «back to here».
- undo: going back to a point saves another one with what was there, so you can always undo.
- app and data together: when you go back to an earlier version you can choose to bring your data back to how it was in that version too.
how to take everything with you
- one app: in noback's tab, «export». pick just the data (a .json file) or the whole app with its data in a single .html that opens without noback.
- everything: in «your account», «export everything». it's a .zip with every version of every app and the data in your copies.
- exporting is free and works on every plan, also if you stopped paying.
if you cancel your plan or don't pay
- if you cancel pro, you keep pro until the end of the period you paid for.
- if a payment fails, you keep pro while paddle retries the charge.
- then you move to the free plan and nothing is deleted. your apps, their versions and their data stay, open and can be exported.
- what goes over the free plan's limits isn't deleted: it just doesn't grow. you can't add new apps past the maximum or publish if there's no room. a copy bigger than the per-copy limit still opens and reads, but doesn't take new data until you're back on pro.
- custom domain: without pro, the domain shows a simple page with the app's link on noback.
- with an account, nothing is deleted for not being used.
apps without an account
- an app published without an account is deleted if nobody opens or uses it for 30 days. any copy counts, from anyone, and every use starts the 30 days over.
- so it isn't deleted, save it to your account. it's free.
limits
| no account | free | pro | |
|---|---|---|---|
| apps | no maximum | 5 | 200 |
| one app (html) | 512 KB | 2 MB | 5 MB |
| one app as .zip | 5 MB | 25 MB | 100 MB |
| data per copy | 1 MB | 10 MB | 100 MB |
| total space | 5 MB per app | 100 MB | 2 GB |
| publishes per hour | 10 per connection | 120 | 600 |
| people per app | no limit | no limit | no limit |
- people: no plan limits how many people use an app.
- pace: each device sends up to 30 rounds of changes per second (in bursts, up to 300), and a whole copy up to 100 per second across everyone. with a huge crowd writing at once, each one gets a bit less, so noback stays fast for everyone. what goes over the pace isn't lost: it waits its turn and arrives a little later.
- heads-up: when you reach 80 % of a limit, noback tells you.
security
- each app runs walled off: it can't see your account, your session or other apps, and it can't drive noback's tab.
- no keys in the html: to save and sync, the app needs no passwords or access keys. it talks to noback through the page that shows it.
- internet: without an account, the app can only read services from a list (weather, currencies, maps). with an account, the first time it wants to talk to another site it asks you.
- review on publish: each version is checked before it's saved, looking for scams (like a page that imitates a bank to ask for passwords) and hidden programs.
- reports: in the tab of any app, «report» (scam or data theft, illegal content or other), or by email to hola@noback.app. a person reviews them.
